Milestones

Require all roads with time-limited school access restrictions to install flashing amber warning lights that activate during restricted hours. Introduce national standards and provide funding guidance to local authorities to ensure consistent, highly visible signage across the country.

Department for Transport data shows thousands of children are injured on UK roads each year, many near schools. Over half of primary school children walk to school, increasing their exposure to traffic. Current static signs for timed restrictions are often missed, leading to accidental breaches and unsafe conditions. Flashing amber lights would clearly signal when restrictions are active, improving driver compliance and helping protect children during drop-off and pick-up times.
