Pass legislation so that a car cannot be sold in the UK without a spare tyre. Not a temporary tyre, but one similar to the fitted ones. This should apply to manufacturers and to resellers.
Most new cars including EVs do not come with a spare tyre. A puncture which would previously have meant an hour's inconvenience, now takes days to fix. Breakdown services have to be called & the car left at the tyre shop while they source and fit the tyre over a few days leading to loss of economic activity. Instead of tyre shops storing all types & sizes of tyres, cars should carry the appropriate spare. The increase in weight would be less of an impact than the impact of requiring breakdown services and the delay of subsequent tyre fitting.
