The consultation proposes that children will retain their EHCP until the end of their current phase of education. We believe this needs to be revised so that it is retained beyond the Transition from Primary to Secondary.

While I understand the intention to streamline the system, the transition from primary to secondary school is one of the most vulnerable points in a child’s educational journey. For pupils with SEND, the existing EHCP provides essential continuity. It enables primary and secondary staff to plan a graduated, well supported transition. However, this work is resource dependent, and any reform must ensure that funding and staffing remain in place to protect this vital transition period.
