I believe that to help restore faith in our unfair and complicated tax system and to ensure that everyone should at least pay basic rate tax, with notional credits for those on benefits etc., we should tax lottery windfalls thereby implementing a fairer tax system for all.
For instance, if the person or persons who won the recent lottery amount of £181 million were taxed at 20% then just over £36 million could be raised to spend on worthy things like the NHS. We believe that to win such a large amount is obscene and does nothing to instil any confidence in those who pay tax, or those who are taxed to the hilt but choose to pay rather than flee the country.
