Milestones

Change electoral law so political parties cannot automatically access voters’ names and addresses from the full electoral register. Voters should be able to opt in or opt out of allowing political parties to access their data from the full electoral register.

Many voters are unaware that political parties can obtain their name & address from the full electoral register & use it for campaigning. Opting out of the open register does not prevent this. Voters should have greater control over how their personal data is used. Allowing an opt-out or requiring consent would protect privacy while still letting people who want political contact to receive it. We believe it also appears inconsistent with the consent principles in UK GDPR & Data Protection Act.
