Make it a legal requirement for all drivers to have breakdown cover, particularly when driving on motorways and other high-speed roads, to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries on hard shoulders and at the roadside.

My grandson Harrison was tragically killed on the hard shoulder after breaking down and trying to change a tyre. He was hit by a driver, and the devastation to our family has been unbearable. Harrison was 26 and an experienced driver, showing this danger can affect everyone. If breakdown cover was compulsory, drivers could call for help instead of risking their lives at the roadside. This could save lives, reduce accidents, and help protect the public and emergency services. We ask for this change in Harrison’s memory.
