Review laws on electoral bribery and treating and consider whether these should extend to political parties running voter competitions and prize draws which might encourage voters to vote for them.
We do not think political parties should be able to pay for potential voters’ expenses such as energy bills, or to give them money due to a lottery/prize draw. Although a lottery may not require the winner, or others who take part, to vote for the party, we do not think that this should be allowed. If we continue to allow this it would be shameful.
