We call for changes to the 2013 Code of Practice on Noise from Ice-Cream Van Chimes to exempt or reasonably adapt rules for essential mobile food providers, including butcher vans serving vulnerable communities.
Mobile butcher vans & other regular mobile food vans provide essential food access to vulnerable, elderly, and housebound people who cannot reach shops. The current 2013 noise rules inadvertently treat such food vans like ice cream vans. Without a simple sound signal, many customers won’t know we’re there. We feel the law is outdated and must allow reasonable audible signals for essential services over a longer period of time each day.
