The Government should phase out the use of nuclear power and urgently commit to developing renewable energy resources such as wind, solar, and hydroelectric power.
Nuclear power produces waste that remains hazardous for thousands of years. We believe there are safety concerns with long term disposal solutions. Renewable energy reduces reliance on imported fuels, improving the UK’s energy security and it protects against global price fluctuations. The UK is also well suited to tidal and wind energy. Not only are renewable energy sources faster to construct, they can be notably cheaper than nuclear power, which is expensive and carries risks.
