Many people sign up to services that renew automatically without a clear reminder or fresh consent. People forget, their circumstances change, and they are then tied into another term and charged again when they may no longer want or use the service.
Subscriptions should have a maximum initial sign-up period of 3 months, followed by no more than 1 month’s notice to cancel. This would stop businesses locking people into long terms through automatic renewals, confusing conditions, and excessive small print that most ordinary customers cannot reasonably be expected to interpret.
