This petition calls on the Government to prohibit access to legal aid funding for asylum appeals following a rejected claim, which would help ensure that individuals whose claims have been fully assessed and refused are removed from the UK without delay.
We believe the UK asylum appeals system is financially unsustainable. Over 100,000 people are awaiting appeal outcomes, with cases taking 63 weeks on average. Many rejected applicants stay in hotels costing on average £118.87 per night, totalling over £52,000 per person and more than £5.25bn overall. This petition calls for ending legal aid for failed claims and ensuring immediate removal after refusal to reduce costs and improve system efficiency.
