We call on the UK Government to fund a new, large-scale railway restoration and improvement plan to reconnect towns and rural communities across the UK. Local communities could submit proposals, in addition to investment in areas identified by the Government as needing transport investment.

Many towns and rural areas remain without adequate rail links, limiting economic opportunities. A nationwide, multi-billion pound plan could create jobs, support local economies, and reduce reliance on cars. Fund a new multi-billion pound plan to reopen railways in towns with populations over 5,000, taking advantage of the recent fall in net borrowing to create jobs and support green travel. Integrate with nationalised rail to provide reliable, affordable, and connected services for all.
