Require all Members of Parliament to undergo mandatory national security vetting as a condition of taking and holding office, with a defined baseline clearance level for parliamentarians.
Parliamentarians hold significant power and may access sensitive information through their roles, even informally. Yet many civil servants and contractors are vetted while MPs are not. We are concerned that this inconsistency risks undermining national security and public confidence. We believe a mandatory vetting framework would align standards and ensure those in positions of highest authority meet appropriate security checks.
