Milestones

Make St George’s Day (23 April) a national bank holiday in England each year, recognising England’s patron saint and bringing England in line with other UK nations that already have national day public holidays.

England has fewer bank holidays than Scotland and Northern Ireland, which recognise St Andrew’s Day and St Patrick’s Day. Creating a St George’s Day holiday would bring England in line with the rest of the UK, celebrate national identity and culture, and support tourism, community events and local economies. It would also help address the UK’s relatively low number of public holidays compared to many European countries.
