Fund the employment of a dedicated psychiatrist in all GP surgeries to help support surgery with the drafting and oversight of titration and cross-tapering plans, and providing medication reviews as needed.
GPs manage the mental health support for many patients, but often lack the specialist training. In our view, the lack of specialist input can lead to: • Patients left on doses that are too high or switched between medications without adequate protocols, leading to severe withdrawal, • Side effects like "emotional numbness" or "akathisia" being mismanaged, leading to loss of quality of life and, in some cases, increased risk of suicide • Patients reaching crisis point, putting pressure on A&E
