Voluntary redundancy payments are not classified as current income for the purposes of child maintenance, meaning they are not always reflected in a child maintenance calculation. We think this is unfair to the other parent who might be financially impacted.
I would like redundancy payments which have been taken voluntarily to always be included as income for the purpose of child maintenance payment calculations. This is not always the case, but in a voluntary redundancy situation I think this seems unfair. The parent receiving the child maintenance payment may not have had a choice in the paying parent taking the voluntary redundancy, yet it can impact them and the children financially.
