Introduce an annual review mechanism for mileage rates
HMRC’s mileage rate of 45p per mile has remained unchanged since 2011. During this time, motoring costs such as fuel, insurance, maintenance and vehicle prices have changed significantly. There is no requirement for regular review or update of the rate, meaning it can drift out of step with real-world costs. We call on the Government to introduce a mandatory annual review mechanism for HMRC mileage rates, assessed against inflation or motoring cost data.
