Milestones

We call on the Government to establish a public register of British citizens, including dual nationals, and UK residents serving in foreign armed forces. This should apply to all levels of engagement: active-duty combatants, reservists and any providing secondary or logistical support.

UK citizens’ participation in foreign military operations lacks transparency. We believe that to ensure compliance with the Geneva Conventions and the International Criminal Court Act 2001, we need a public record of all UK-linked service (direct or secondary). A register would assist the Metropolitan Police War Crimes Unit in monitoring returning individuals. We think this is essential to uphold international law and ensure that no British persons are involved in activities breaching human rights.
