We call on the UK Government to make water companies statutory consultees in all housing development planning applications. This would ensure that no development can proceed unless the relevant water company confirms that adequate water supply, wastewater, and drainage infrastructure is in place.
New housing developments can place significant pressure on existing water and wastewater systems. Without early input from water companies, developments risk causing water shortages, sewage overflows, and environmental harm. Making water companies statutory consultees would help protect public health, safeguard the environment, and ensure sustainable growth.
