Require all schools to have at least 70 minutes of break time per day. We believe that this will provide the necessary development of all young people and will prevent health issues associated with inadequate outdoor exposure.
Time spent outdoors is essential for the health and wellbeing of young people. Outdoor activity supports physical/mental health, and reduces the risk of developing eye conditions such as myopia - which reduces overall quality of life. Studies suggest around one in three children suffer from myopia, with rates steadily increasing. Regular outdoor time has been linked to improved physical/mental health and preventing myopia. We believe many schools currently provide insufficient break time for young people.
