The OfS found that 1 in 7 students experience sexual assault, with over half occurring in university settings. We believe consent training should not be optional and the Government needs to make it a legal requirement for universities to provide consent training to every student.

Sexual assault is widespread across universities. Some universities have introduced consent training, but it is not consistently provided. The University of Oxford found that 80% of students who completed consent training felt they had a better understanding of consent afterwards. The Government must make consent training a legal requirement for all universities, covering, at a minimum, consent, the law, communicating and checking for consent, and how to seek support after sexual assault.
