Milestones

Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) applicants should have to undergo an enhanced DBS check before the OPG grants them power over an individual. Current LPA's should have these checks done as they haven’t thus far and some may have been putting the Donors in danger.

LPA's are given the power to make decisions for the elderly in every way. From financials to health. We are concerned that some elderly people have their basic rights stripped away by their LPA, their voice taken away and are treated poorly mentally and physically. Some can be isolated from friends and loved ones, abused, coerced into things they don't want to do and some may endure all of it. LPA's to these people hold all the power and some don’t face consequences. Background checks should be mandatory.
