While the Equality Act 2010 protects people with disabilities, we believe it must go further to foster a culture of inclusion for those with hidden disabilities. Existing responsibilities are not supported by mandatory training, especially for those with neurodivergence, this can limit support.
We are calling on the government to ensure that public sector services are equipped to help and support people with hidden disabilities. Currently, while there is legislation to support reasonable adjustments to avoid discrimination, there is no mandatory training to ensure that public sector workers know enough about hidden disabilities to be able to deliver this effectively.
