Require clear, standardised nut allergy labelling on menus and food packaging, similar to vegan, vegetarian and halal labels. Nut allergies can be fatal within minutes, yet allergen information can be unclear. Clear front-facing labels could help save lives and prevent avoidable deaths.
People with nut allergies face life-threatening risks every day because allergen information is often unclear, inconsistent or difficult to find. Restaurants, cafés, takeaways and food packaging should clearly display nut warnings in the same visible way foods are labelled as vegan, vegetarian or halal. A simple, standardised system would help people make safer choices quickly, reduce anxiety for families and prevent avoidable allergic reactions and deaths.
