Given the recent events we want Government to ensure all school children are given mandatory swimming on the curriculum at every school, from key stage 2 right until the end of key stage 4. Too many children are leaving school unable to swim and this is unacceptable and is a key survival skill.
When we grew up, we went swimming every week and then in secondary school on a cycle so during every year would swim for around six weeks once a term. We feel many schools without pools do not offer enough swimming time for children during PE and funding needs to be made to ensure every school can get children to pools regularly during key stages 2 - 4. This must be compulsory and at least six weeks per year should be allocated per child.
