Milestones

The rapid expansion of industrial estates across the country has not kept pace with essential infrastructure—particularly safe, legal, secure and sufficient parking for HGVs. All new industrial estates should have HGV parking provisions included from the planning stage.

Modern industrial developments generate significant freight activity. We believe it is neither reasonable nor sustainable to externalise the parking burden onto surrounding communities. National planning policy (e.g. NPPF, paragraph 87 (b)) supports infrastructure that meets development needs—HGV parking is a core part of that. We ask that all future industrial planning applications include a minimum number of on-site HGV parking bays, calculated per square metre of warehouse/logistics space
