Amend Council Tax legislation to increase the Single Person Discount to 50% for all single-adult households. We believe this will ensure fair taxation for people living alone.

Single occupants currently receive only a 25% discount, forcing them to pay 75% of the total bill. We believe this penalises single people, who must already cover 100% of rent, mortgages, and fixed utility standing charges on a single income. Single-person households will almost always use fewer local services than multi-adult homes. In our view, the current system acts as an unfair penalty on those living alone due to choice, divorce, bereavement, or circumstance. We want the discount to be raised to 50% to reflect true fairness.
