Make it a legal requirement for all children's cough and sore throat medicines sold over the counter be supplied in containers fitted with child-resistant caps. We also ask manufacturers to adopt this safety measure voluntarily while any regulatory changes are being considered.
Many medicines and household products already use child-resistant caps because they are proven to reduce the risk of accidental poisoning. In our view, there is no reason why medicines specifically designed for children should not follow the same standard.
