The frequent reviews of Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards help ensure that those most vulnerable in society are given as much freedom as possible. After the Supreme Court ruling on the DoLS, these safeguards need to be fully restored to help ensure people's right to autonomy and minimal restriction.

Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLS) are a series of checks used to ensure someone who ‘lacks capacity’ is given as much freedom as possible and that all restrictions placed upon them are in their best interests. We think the recent Supreme Court ruling takes away the rights of autonomy for the most vulnerable, including those with severe learning disabilities, complex mental health and advanced dementia.
