Brucella Canis is an emerging zoonotic disease introduced into the UK by the unregulated import of dogs for rehoming. Those most at risk are people working within the veterinary industry and associated professions.

Brucella Canis is a zoonotic disease that can pass from dogs to people. It is a hard disease to diagnose as many dogs don’t show signs of illness. When infected people can suffer a variety of signs. There is some evidence that fertility can be affected and if latently infected it could prevent people from having appropriate chemotherapy should they get cancer.
