Milestones

Require the Home Office to provide every visa holder on a route to settlement with a written statement confirming their settlement route, whether previous leave counts towards settlement, and the earliest date they can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain based on its current assessment.

Many people receive visas that can eventually lead to settlement, but are not told how previous immigration decisions affect their qualifying period. This can leave applicants uncertain about when they are eligible to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain, risking expensive applications made too early or unnecessary delays. Clear written information would improve transparency, reduce avoidable applications and help people understand their immigration position.
