Create a national public register of scam phone numbers. Require these numbers to be reported in a free, searchable public register and require communication providers to investigate these numbers and remove them where appropriate.
Telephone scams can cause financial loss and distress, yet there is no single public database to check suspicious numbers. A national public register could help people avoid known scam calls, identify emerging fraud more quickly, and enable communications providers to investigate numbers receiving multiple independent reports and remove them where misuse is confirmed.
