Milestones

Legislate to prevent court staff from blocking properly filed court applications and supporting evidence from reaching a judge for judicial determination, and require every such administrative decision to be transparent, recorded, legally authorised and subject to independent judicial review.

Access to an independent judge is a fundamental constitutional safeguard and an essential part of the rule of law. We believe properly filed court applications and supporting evidence should not be prevented from reaching a judge by administrative action unless expressly authorised by law. We want the Government to strengthen safeguards, increase transparency and accountability, and ensure every person has effective access to independent judicial determination.
