Require schools and childcare settings to ensure pupils receive same-sex intimate care wherever reasonably practicable. When this is not possible, a second member of staff should be present to safeguard vulnerable children and reassure parents.
Many children with disabilities are non-speaking or unable to communicate if they are uncomfortable or something goes wrong during intimate personal care. We believe parents should have confidence that their children’s dignity, privacy and safety are protected. Schools and childcare settings should be required to provide same-sex intimate care wherever reasonably practicable and require a second member of staff to be present if this is not possible.
