We want the Government to require digital services and consumer communications provided to people in the UK, including websites, apps, emails and documents, to display dates using either the UK date format (DD/MM/YYYY) or the internationally recognised ISO 8601 format (YYYY-MM-DD) by default.

The US month/day/year format is confusing for UK users because dates such as 7/1 or 5/8 can be interpreted differently. Many services already adapt currency, language and units based on a user's location. We believe dates should be treated the same way. Consumer-facing websites, apps, emails and documents provided to people in the UK should use either the UK date format (DD/MM/YYYY) or the internationally recognised ISO 8601 format (YYYY-MM-DD) by default.
