Review and strengthen sentencing laws for child sexual abuse offences committed by teachers and other adults in position of trust to create meaningful deterrent, and restore confidence in the justice system and ensure that the protection of children remains at the heart of the law.
These offences can devastate victims, families and the wider community. I believe that too often those who abuse positions of trust receive suspended sentences or punishments that do not reflect the seriousness of their crimes. The law must ensure offenders against children in positions of trust face stronger consequences, creating a real deterrent and restoring confidence in the justice system.
