We want the Government to introduce legislation requiring water companies to provide automatic, pro-rata financial rebates to household customers for every day a Temporary Use Ban (hosepipe ban) is in place.
Water companies charge customers fixed rates for a continuous, unrestricted supply of water. When a company enforces a hosepipe ban, they are restricting the service that consumers are paying for – in our view, this is often to compensate for their own failure to manage leakages and infrastructure. We believe that it is unfair that consumers bear the full financial cost of restricted usage while water companies continue to collect full fees and pay dividends.
