We call on the Government to make air conditioning mandatory for all council homes with full funding. Rising temperatures can pose severe health risks, and upper floors overheat most. Safe cooling should be a basic standard for every social housing tenant.

Summers are getting hotter. Council homes especially top floor flats can get dangerously warm. This puts older people, disabled people, children and vulnerable residents at risk. We are concerned that overheating is a housing hazard but no rules or funding exist for cooling. We ask the Government to: - Make cooling or air conditioning required for all council homes - Start with top floor flats - Pay all costs so tenants pay nothing We believe cooling is now an essential need, not a luxury!
