Mandate the use of jury trials for all civil litigation claims exceeding £1 billion.
Prior to 1933, civil jury trials were common in England. Recently multi-billion pound mass-tort litigations have been put to a single judge to make the final court decision. We believe such massive public-interest decisions should not rest on one individual. Restoring juries for civil claims could help ensure democratic transparency, and community alignment in the UK's highest-stakes corporate legal battles.
