The frequent removal of Cabinet ministers damages government stability and accountability. When ministers are removed, it often signals a failure or a shift in direction, yet those same individuals are frequently reappointed to top frontbench roles shortly afterward.
We believe recycling the same politicians hurts public trust, drags down the quality of governance, and erodes the political merit system. We’re calling on the government to pass a law that would automatically stop any minister who’s been removed from Cabinet from returning to any Cabinet role for the rest of that parliamentary term. This would improve accountability, break the cycle of underperformers, and help restore public confidence in British politics.
