Introduce legislation requiring governing political parties to reimburse the Exchequer for the direct administrative costs of resignation of a PM as party leader, or cabinet reshuffles.
Taxpayers should continue to fund general elections and the resulting transfers of power. However, when a governing political party voluntarily replaces its party leader (the Prime Minister) or reshuffles the Cabinet due to an internal leadership decision, the party should reimburse the Exchequer for the direct administrative costs. This would ensure taxpayers are not solely responsible for the costs of avoidable internal party decisions.
