We want the Government to reduce VAT on public electric vehicle (EV) charging from 20% to the same rate applied to home charging. EV drivers who cannot charge at home should not be penalised through higher costs simply because of their housing circumstances.
This petition is about creating a fairer VAT system for electric vehicle charging. Currently, electricity used for public EV charging is subject to 20% VAT, while those able to charge at home benefit from a lower rate and, from October 2026, VAT-free charging. Many drivers cannot install home chargers due to their housing situation and have no choice but to use public chargers. EV drivers should be treated equally regardless of where they charge.
