We want the Government to appoint a Minister of State for Water Safety. The Minister should ensure water safety standards are adhered to, warnings are put out all year-round, so landowners take responsibility for their land/bodies of water, and adequate signage & safety equipment are in place.
We believe that local authorities should be responsible for their own areas; they need a point of contact. We want an official Minister who will support families and people affected by drownings regardless of the constituency they’re in. We believe this Minister should be in charge of any safety standards relating to bodies of open water, as well as safety equipment, signage, maintenance, and fencing by open waters.
