We call upon the Government to extend the England bus fare cap to trams. Trams have often regenerated deprived neighbourhoods, yet bus services often reduce as a result, so poor neighbourhoods are left with little choice but to get the more expensive tram. There should be a level playing field.
Comparison of UK tram single fares as of 27th July 2026, not covered by the bus fare cap: Birmingham between £2.50 and £5.30; Blackpool £3 or £3.50; Manchester between £1.40 and £4.80; Nottingham £3.60; Sheffield £2.50 or £3
