We want the UK Government to establish and/or increase minimum sentences for all terrorism offences where appropriate. The aims are to ensure that penalties better reflect the seriousness of terrorism offences, to protect the public, and to maintain confidence in the criminal justice system.

Current terrorism sentencing laws should be reviewed to ensure they reflect the seriousness of modern terrorist offending. Cases such as the member of the “The Beatles”, who received an eight-year sentence after being convicted of a terrorism offence on his return to the UK, have prompted debate about whether existing penalties are sufficient. We ask the Government to review minimum sentences and strengthen the law where necessary to better protect the publics best interest and safety.
