Introduce law to require gaming companies to protect children from exploitative in-game purchases and manipulative monetisation. In our view, games aimed at children should not use excessive prices, exclusive rewards or fear of missing out to encourage spending.

In-game exclusive items can be harmful. Children cannot earn the kind of money required for some of the items in the games, yet games use exclusive rewards to create fear of missing out. For vulnerable children and families, this can have devastating consequences. The Government should introduce laws to protect children from exploitative in-game monetisation and require games to put wellbeing before profit.
