Require people making referrals to children’s social services to provide their identity confidentially, and introduce penalties for anyone who knowingly makes a false or malicious report intended to harass, intimidate or cause harm.
I want the Government to change the law so that anyone making a referral to children’s social services must provide their identity confidentially to the local authority. Their identity should not be automatically shared with the family. I also want penalties introduced for anyone who is found to have knowingly made a false or malicious report intended to harass, intimidate or cause harm. This could help prevent abuse of the system while protecting genuine safeguarding referrals.
