As a teaching assistant myself, I feel school staff do not receive adequate training on helping SEND children. I believe this is vitally needed to help us support them with their educational journey as well as their speech & language, behaviour management, mental health and sensory training.
We want the Government to legislate to mandate all school staff to receive basic SEND-awareness training, in order to support SEND children in education effectively. This basic training could help with waiting lists and times for certain services and for progress to be made in schools first at least. This could lead to improved attendance and increased wellbeing of pupils and staff.
